In preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramazan, the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) has unveiled a new gas schedule for its customers. The company stated that natural gas will be available from 3 am to 9 am and 3 pm to 10 pm during Ramazan, aiming to ensure uninterrupted supplies for Sehar and Iftaar preparations.
Addressing the concern of declining gas reserves, the SSGC emphasized that a 10% depletion in the country’s reserves has led to a widening gap between gas demand and supply. To improve gas pressure and manage reserves, the company will conduct gas profiling from 9 am to 3 pm and during late-night hours from 10 pm to 3 am.
“These timings have been arranged to facilitate food preparations for Sehar and Iftaar,” the SSGC stated in a released statement.
Ramazan is expected to commence on March 11 in Pakistan, coinciding with March 10 in the Arabic world. Over the past two years, the use of domestic gas cylinders in Pakistan has surged. The country has been exploring various avenues to meet its rising demand for natural gas.
However, in a bid to comply with International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions, the government recently approved a significant 67% increase in gas tariffs. This decision, while aimed at unlocking another tranche of loans, has resulted in soaring gas prices despite a relatively slower inflation rate, the lowest since June 2022.
