Quetta, August 13, 2024 — A series of violent attacks rocked Quetta on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving at least 10 others injured.
The day began with a devastating explosion in Quetta’s Liaquat Bazaar, where one person was killed and six others injured. The blast occurred at a shop selling Independence Day items, where an unknown motorcyclist hurled a grenade. The explosion inflicted significant damage to the shop and wounded seven people, including the shop owner and his brother. The injured were rushed to the trauma center at Civil Hospital, where one victim, Irfanullah, later succumbed to his injuries.
The violence continued with a grenade attack on a girls’ high school located on Munir Mengal Road in the Sariab Road area. The grenade was thrown near the school gate, causing damage to part of the building and injuring the school watchman. He was also taken to Civil Hospital for medical care.
In Kharan, a remote-controlled bomb was detonated at Bugti Stadium, but fortunately, there were no casualties. Similarly, a grenade attack on a security forces checkpost in Panjgur also resulted in no injuries.
The day’s attacks culminated in a late-night assault in Killi Deba, Quetta. Two individuals were killed and three others injured when grenades exploded inside two houses. The deceased were identified as Muhammad and Beebal, the wife of Ghulam Nabi. The grenades had been fired by motorcyclists towards Ayub Stadium, where an Independence Day bodybuilding competition was underway. Two grenades landed in residential homes, while a third exploded in a private parking lot.
Rescue and police teams are investigating these incidents as the city reels from the day’s violent events.
