Islamabad – In a significant development, three retired military officers have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings against former spymaster Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed. The development was confirmed by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in an official statement.
“In connection with the FGCM proceedings of Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, three retired officers are also in military custody for their actions prejudicial to military discipline,” the ISPR statement read.
The ISPR further elaborated that investigations are continuing into the activities of certain retired officers and their accomplices who are suspected of fomenting instability in collaboration with vested political interests.
The Field General Court Martial against Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed was initiated on August 12, following his detention in connection with the Top City case. The ISPR previously stated that the process was in compliance with the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s orders, which prompted a detailed court of inquiry by the Pakistan Army.
“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd),” the ISPR stated. Disciplinary action has since been initiated under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.
The ISPR also highlighted that multiple instances of violations of the Pakistan Army Act by Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed post-retirement have been established.
This follows the April 2024 inquiry launched by the Pakistan Army in response to allegations leveled by the owner of a private housing society. The inquiry, led by a Major General, sought to investigate the accusations against the former ISI chief.
The developments have added a new layer of complexity to the ongoing case, further deepening the scrutiny of the actions taken by retired military officials.
