A new TMZ documentary is shining a light on a troubling aspect of Hollywood, alleging a connection between Matthew Perry’s tragic death and a secret celebrity drug ring. The special, titled TMZ Investigates: Matthew Perry and the Secret Celebrity Drug Ring, aired on Monday, September 16, on FOX and is now streaming on Hulu.
The one-hour documentary delves into the circumstances surrounding the Friends star’s passing and investigates the involvement of doctors, drug dealers, and enablers. It scrutinizes the role of “unscrupulous doctors and unethical rehab centers,” featuring insights from prominent figures such as Dr. Terry Dubrow from Botched, TV personality Kelly Osbourne, and a former DEA agent.
In a revealing preview clip, Bill Bodner, the former DEA agent, explains how the lure of fame can drive doctors to breach ethical boundaries. “When there’s money or celebrity involved, it leads to diversion outside of ethical bounds,” Bodner asserts.
Kelly Osbourne, daughter of Ozzy Osbourne, supports Bodner’s claims, revealing, “All my drug dealers were doctors.”
Matthew Perry, 54, died in October 2023 from an accidental ketamine overdose at his Los Angeles home. Following his death, the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation that culminated in August 2024 with the arrest of five individuals, including two doctors.
The documentary suggests that Perry, who had been candid about his struggles with addiction, may have been exploited by those meant to assist him.
