Karachi: Two elephants at Karachi’s Safari Park have been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB), raising concerns over their health and the safety of other animals and staff at the facility.
According to park officials, the elephants, Noor Jehan and Madhubala, underwent medical tests after showing signs of illness. The results confirmed TB, a bacterial infection that can affect both humans and animals. Experts from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and international wildlife organizations have been consulted for their treatment.
Veterinary specialists have begun administering medication and monitoring the elephants closely. Officials assure that the disease is in its early stages and efforts are being made to prevent its spread. Meanwhile, animal rights activists have urged authorities to improve living conditions and medical care for all animals in the park.
This diagnosis comes months after Noor Jehan suffered severe health complications before passing away in April 2023. Concerns over the well-being of Karachi’s elephants have been ongoing, with calls for better wildlife management and care standards.
Authorities have assured that safety protocols are being followed, and visitors to the park are not at risk. Further updates on the elephants’ treatment will be shared as the situation develops.
