Karachi, January 14, 2025 – The administration of the University of Karachi has released a notification requiring students to adhere to a modest and respectful dress code on campus. This move aims to ensure that students’ attire does not offend or distract others in the academic environment.
Dr. Nosheen Raza, the university’s student advisor, issued the notification, outlining specific guidelines for student clothing. The directive stresses the importance of maintaining a respectful and academic appearance while on campus.
The guidelines highlight that students should avoid provocative or distracting clothing, ensuring that attire is appropriate for a professional and academic setting. Specific restrictions include a ban on revealing or see-through garments, shorts, sleeveless or tight-fitting clothes, and apparel featuring offensive or objectionable language.
Additionally, the notice prohibits the wearing of casual slippers and flip-flops as part of the dress code.
In an interview with a private news channel, Dr. Raza explained that the university has a student body of 45,000 and frequently issues such notifications to maintain discipline. She emphasized that these guidelines are consistent with expectations at universities nationwide, which aim to foster a respectful and conducive environment for academic growth.
