Veteran television actor Mazhar Ali passed away on Monday at the age of 70 after battling a prolonged cardiac illness, according to Pakistan Television (PTV). Ali had recently returned to Pakistan from the United States, where he was receiving treatment for his condition.
Mazhar Ali’s illustrious career began with PTV, where he delivered remarkable performances in several iconic dramas such as Afshan, Shaheen, Kali Deemak, and Kaanch Ki Gurya. His memorable roles made him a beloved figure in the Pakistani drama industry.
He is survived by his widow and three children, who reside in Houston, USA. According to his sister, Ahla Imran, Ali had been admitted to the hospital for three weeks and passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Expressing his condolences, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah acknowledged the contributions of Mazhar Ali to television, noting that his services will always be remembered. “Ali was a talented actor who entertained countless viewers,” he said, as reported by APP.
Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, stating, “We have lost a great artist and a respected human being today.” He highlighted the impact of Ali’s work, saying, “Mazhar Ali mesmerised us with his artistic skills and won a place in our hearts with his acting. His death is an irreparable loss to the Pakistani drama industry.”
Fellow actor Bushra Ansari shared her sorrow over the loss, posting a picture with Ali on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “Lots of memories with this great actor and gentleman.”
Mazhar Ali’s contributions to Pakistan’s television industry will continue to be celebrated, as fans and colleagues remember his legacy.
