In a heartbreaking announcement, the family of legendary Indian singer Pankaj Udhas confirmed his passing on Monday. The 73-year-old singer, celebrated for his soul-stirring ghazals, succumbed to a long-standing illness, as revealed by his daughter Nayaab Udhas in an emotional Instagram post.
“With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness,” she shared, expressing the family’s grief.
Pankaj Udhas, born on May 17, 1951, in Gujarat, captured the hearts of millions with his melodious voice, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s. His ghazals, each a masterpiece of poetic expression, earned him a dedicated fan base not only in India but across the globe.
The news of his passing was confirmed by Pankaj’s representative, stating, “Pankaj sir was suffering from a prolonged illness and wasn’t keeping well the last few days. He died this morning around 11 am at Breach Candy hospital.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Pankaj Udhas delivered numerous iconic ghazals, including timeless classics like “Chitthi Aayi Hai,” “Aur Aahista Kijiye Baatein,” “Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera,” “Mein Nashe Mein Hoon,” “Chupke Chupke,” and “Na Kajre Ki Dhar” among others.
