In a bid to tackle the rising issue of water scarcity, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has announced a fine of Rs. 20,000 for individuals found using household water to wash cars or floors. This decision is part of a broader effort to promote water conservation and discourage wastage in residential areas.
A WASA spokesperson emphasized the urgent need to adopt sustainable practices, stating, “Every drop of water is precious, and we must act responsibly to ensure its availability for future generations.” The agency has also urged citizens to adopt alternative methods, such as using recycled water for outdoor cleaning.
The fine will be enforced strictly, with teams assigned to monitor neighborhoods. Residents are encouraged to report water wastage incidents through the WASA helpline.
This initiative follows growing concerns over depleting groundwater levels and the effects of climate change, which have severely impacted water resources across the country.
