WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, has announced that it will stop supporting older Android smartphones starting January 1, 2025.
Devices running Android KitKat or earlier versions will no longer be compatible with the app. This change is aimed at improving security and enabling the integration of advanced AI features that older smartphones cannot support.
The decision comes as WhatsApp looks to enhance user safety and functionality, aligning with its plan to introduce more AI-driven features. Users of affected devices will need to upgrade to a newer Android version or switch to a compatible device to continue using WhatsApp.
For iPhone users, the deadline is set for May 2025, by which time devices must be updated to a supported iOS version.
