Rotorua, New Zealand – Darren Jason Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, was met with overwhelming excitement during his tour of New Zealand. The 19-year-old YouTube sensation, known for his energetic antics and boasting over 33 million subscribers, live-streamed his visit to Rotorua, captivating both locals and a massive online audience. At one point, more than 53,000 live viewers tuned in to his stream.
During his visit to Skyline Rotorua, Speed encountered a memorable cultural moment when a group performed the Ka Mate haka for him. His reaction? A mix of surprise and enthusiasm. “What the f*** is that? Oh yeah! I wanna do that!” he exclaimed. Guided by locals, Speed jumped into the haka, mimicking the movements and adding his unique flair.
The Ohio-born streamer also embraced other quintessential Kiwi experiences. Partnering with New Zealand YouTuber Jimi Jackson, Speed raced in Zorbs, tried a classic steak and cheese pie, which he praised enthusiastically, and picked up local slang like “chur” and “mean.”
One of the highlights of his Rotorua stop was a visit to Whakarewarewa – the Living Māori Village, where he led a haka performance with a mix of traditional calls like “Kia mau!” and his own improvisations, including barking sounds and backflips, much to the delight of onlookers.
After sharing hugs and high-fives with young fans, Speed topped off the day with a daring “manu” dive-bomb into natural waters. His New Zealand adventure continues with planned visits to Auckland and Queenstown.
