China has once again stirred diplomatic waters by reaffirming its claim over Arunachal Pradesh, referring to the region as “Zangnan”, in a firm response to India’s recent statements on the disputed territory.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “Zangnan has always been part of China’s territory. This is a historical fact, and our position on the matter is consistent and clear.”
The comment came after India strongly objected to Chinese actions in the region, including the release of maps and renaming of locations within Arunachal Pradesh. India maintains that the state is an integral part of its sovereign territory and has routinely dismissed China’s claims as baseless.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have remained high since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. Recent developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) have once again brought the dispute into international focus.
India is expected to issue a formal response to China’s latest remarks. Meanwhile, analysts warn that such rhetorical escalations may hinder ongoing diplomatic and military talks aimed at maintaining peace along the contested border.
