Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Jr, a well-known social activist and human rights advocate, has officially entered politics, announcing his decision to lead the Shaheed Bhutto faction of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP-SB).
In a televised interview, Bhutto Jr strongly criticized the proposed construction of six new canals, warning that the project posed an existential threat to Sindh. He argued that the depletion of water resources would not only endanger human lives but also devastate wildlife and aquatic ecosystems, calling the initiative a form of “cultural genocide.”
He further claimed that growing public opposition had forced authorities to reconsider their stance on the controversial project.
A New Political Journey
Bhutto Jr confirmed his political aspirations while addressing supporters in Naudero, where he pledged to uphold the vision of his late father, who founded the PPP-SB. He emphasized the need for fresh leadership in Pakistan and urged greater political engagement from the youth, stating that many young Pakistanis feel abandoned and lack proper guidance to bring about meaningful change.
While acknowledging that he is still learning the complexities of national politics, Bhutto Jr expressed his commitment to understanding Pakistan’s political landscape and preparing himself for leadership. His entry into politics marks the continuation of the Bhutto family’s longstanding legacy in the country’s political arena.
With his leadership, PPP-SB may witness a revival as he seeks to rally public support around key issues affecting Sindh and the broader political landscape of Pakistan.
